The idea for BABO blue was born in November 2013. A lot has happened since then...

But how did we actually come up with the, admittedly, somewhat crazy idea of developing a blue beer mix? The impetus for this came from the Innovation Competition for Beverages and Food at the TU Munich, in which we took part together with our team members Kaspar and Josef. For the competition, we wanted to develop a beer mix that had never existed in this form on the German beverage market before.

Not an easy task when you consider that there are already 1,300 breweries in Germany alone, which together produce around 5,000 different beers. The international brands are left out of the equation. Nevertheless, we dared to take part in the project and in a market analysis we conducted ourselves (or rather, went to supermarkets and pubs), we noticed that there was beer in blue bottles, but no product that was blue itself. So the basic idea for the BABO blue was born and the whole work just started. Because, you saw it in the show - if you mix yellow beer with blue lemonade, it turns green.

So we had to approach this problem constructively, just as we learned it during our studies. That's why we grabbed Josef's home brewery to produce our first beer on a 50 litre scale. In order to optimize the taste and appearance of the beer, many more brews were brewed in the following months until we were finally satisfied with the beer.

However, even the best beer alone does not make a good beer mix. Just as important is the limo, whose recipe we optimized with a lot of time in the laboratories of the TU München-Weihenstephan. Only in this way did we manage to make the blue berry lemonade as fruity and fresh as it is now. In terms of taste, we have also oriented ourselves to the colour blue. Our delicious lemonade gets its taste from the natural aromas of blueberries, blackberries and black currants.
