"In the beginning I only made good chocolate without additives and white sugar for my own use. So with a small stirrer and ingredients from the organic food store, I just started. When after a few months with mediocre tests the taste got better and better, the mixer ran 24 hours a day - friends and family finally had to be supplied with chocolate.
Little by little Leonie and I came to the conclusion that besides artificial additives such as emulsifiers, a lot more goes wrong in the food industry: plastic packaging covers the oceans, fattening livestock farming damages the climate, food is simply chased through production lines in grey giant factories and producers earn starvation wages despite the astronomical profits of the industrial nations. Where are humanity and passion for good food?
Then it was clear to us: with our good sweets we can really make a difference! Through a mutual acquaintance we met Kenny, a semi-German cocoa farmer who grows fine cocoa with his family in the Dominican Republic. We knew immediately: Only here we buy the cocoa for our things (which had become meanwhile real products). By the direct purchase no large importers or - dealers earn in between with and their profit remains where it belongs, namely with the farmers. Only from this cocoa do we now make handmade chocolate specialities according to our principles - organic, vegan and fair with sustainable packaging made of compostable cellophane". - Mathis Albrecht, founder of Yanns
