The company began in 1971 operating as Spectronic Analytical Instruments. In its early years it purely serviced instruments. Its reputation for quality and service grew to such an extent that a number of leading manufacturers invited Spectronic to be their UK distributors. One of these was Cambridge based Camspec, manufacturers of the leading range of UV/VIS spectrophotometers. The success created on their behalf was such that Spectronic took over that company in 2009 creating Spectronic Camspec.
