The Year of Spiegelau Craft Beer Glasses

Receipt of the second prestigious prize in 2015, with the International Design Excellence Award Gold

03-Sep-2015 - Germany

With the prestigious International Design Excellence Award (IDEA), the craft beer glasses of Spiegelau were awarded a gold medal. Within the context of the official gala in Seattle, the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) honoured the glass series from Germany. More than 1,700 products from across the world were submitted for the design competition. During a festive ceremony, a total of 28 gold, 53 silver and 83 bronze awards were presented.

After having won the Red Dot Award, Spiegelau was awarded the second major award in this year with the IDEA, for the aroma-specific glass series consisting of a total of three glasses. “2015 is the year of the Spiegelau Craft beer Glasses – the entire Spiegelau team is absolutely delighted about the distinction. It is yet another form of recognition and a reward for our unconventional approach that is consistently aligned to ensuring the perfect sensory properties. The glasses are ideal for unfolding the complete palette of flavours and also as regards the optical impression; this was once again confirmed with the IDEA, and we also do not settle for anything less,” the managing director Richard Voit reports enthusiastically after the announcement of the jury’s decision.

The Craft Beer Glasses by Spiegelau were developed in special workshops, together with a team of experts consisting of master brewers and beer industry specialists. Within this context, numerous glasses were tested with the goal of finding the shapes that were best suited for the complex flavour profiles of the varieties brewed in artisan craft, such as India pale ale, American wheat beer and stout. Thanks to the specific glass shapes, the craft beers’ aromas in the nose and on the tongue are conveyed in a balanced manner, and their flavour and texture is optimally presented.

This year, for the 35th time, the International Design Excellence Awards were awarded for outstanding design in 20 categories. For the jury chairman, Matthew Marzynski, the University of Boston and IDSA, the awards reward “history in the making”.
