Poll: Almost half of Germans eating less meat to help environment

Almost half of Germans are eating less meat due to concerns about the environment, according to a Greenpeace study seen by dpa.
Forty-five per cent of participants in the poll said they had reduced their meat consumption in a bid to limit their impact on the environment and climate change, with that figure even higher among women.
Another 33 per cent of those asked said they would consider eating less meat, while one in five said they wouldn't change their diet.
Almost 90 per cent were in favour of a labelling system for meat packaging to inform consumers about animal welfare. Greenpeace is campaigning for a system that ranks products from 0-3 in terms of welfare, similar to labels on egg boxes in Germany. (dpa)
