Arko acquires confectionery chain Hussel - name to stay
The trading company Arko will take over the Hussel confectionery chain on October 1. Both sides announced on Friday that they had agreed not to disclose the purchase price to financial investor Emeram Capital Partners. According to a spokeswoman, the Hussel businesses will continue under their previous name. The employees will be taken over.
In 2016 Arko had already taken over 35 Eilles stores from coffee roaster Darboven. The merger of the three brands Arko, Eilles and Hussel will create Europe's largest confectionery retailer with around 2000 employees and 450 locations in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Portugal.
Arko, a company based in the German town of Wahlstedt, operates more than 200 stores in Germany - mainly in the north and east - and employs around 850 people. Hussel was founded in 1949 in Hagen and is represented by 210 branches with a focus on southern and western Germany. The company has almost 1200 employees. (dpa)
