What started as a crazy idea in the kitchen at home has now culminated in the award for best gin in the world. In summer 2017, Yuka Suzuki and Hauke Günther founded their spirits start-up Hamburg-Zanzibar as a sideline. On the northern outskirts of the city, they moved into their own distillery in early 2020, the smallest in the city. Here they distil their distinctive gins and other creative spirit specialities inspired by the spice island of Zanzibar: wild and rough, sweet and spicy, with selected exotic botanicals such as turmeric, juniper or pink pepper. The beginning of a success story that is far from over.
