Kellogg's calls video of man urinating on conveyor belt disgusting

15-Mar-2016 - USA

The US cereal maker Kellogg's apologized Monday for a video posted on the internet that has spoiled the breakfast of countless Americans.  The video, which caused a sensation on the internet over the weekend, shows an unknown man urinating on a conveyor belt in a factory. The camera pans to a Kellogg's logo mounted on the machine.

The company confirmed the authenticity of the video and apologized to customers and employees.

Paul Norman, head of North American operations for Kellogg's, called it a "disgusting act of disrespect" in a statement Monday in which it also declared its deep regret.

Internal investigations show that the clip originally came from the year 2014 and was filmed at a plant in Memphis, Tennessee, where the breakfast cereal Rice Krispies is manufactured.

"Kellogg takes this situation very seriously and we are shocked and disappointed," Norman said. "This person's conduct is unacceptable."

Kellogg's immediately contacted law enforcement authorities and the US Food and Drug Administration. Norman said a criminal investigation was under way, and the company is working to identify the individual, fire him if he still works at the plant and prosecute him.

Norman also said in the statement that only a limited number of products could have been impacted and they would now be past their expiration dates.

The video was viewed more than 53,000 times before YouTube deleted access to it. Many of the comments of people who viewed it can still be read at the website. (dpa)
