New Coca-Cola Parental Leave Policy
Coca-Cola has expanded its paid parental leave policy to all moms and dads and have credited the expansion to its Millennial employees.
The new policy, which takes effect January 1, 2017, offers six weeks of paid leave to all new parents, including moms and dads, and adoptive and foster parents. These new benefits supplement Coke's earlier maternity leave of six to eight weeks for birth mothers.
About 40,000 workers will be covered by the new policy.
"Fostering an inclusive workplace means valuing all parents - no matter their gender or sexual orientation," said Ceree Eberly, Chief People Officer, The Coca-Cola Company. "We think the most successful way to structure benefits to help working families is to make them gender-neutral and encourage both moms and dads to play an active role in their family lives."
Coca-Cola said the new policy was "championed" by a group of millennial employees called Coca-Cola Millennial Voices. By 2020, Coke expects more than half of its workforce will be of the "millennial generation," born between 1981 and 1997. (dpa)
