Hash Browns Recalled Because Of Golf Balls

27-Apr-2017 - USA

Frozen hash browns, made by McCain Foods USA, are being recalled from stores in nine states, citing that the potatoes may contain extraneous golf ball materials. The product is sold and distributed under the Roundy's and Harris Teeter retail brands.

In a statement, the company said the golf balls apparently were "inadvertently harvested" along with the potatoes.

The company said that, if consumed, the hash browns may pose a choking hazard or other physical injury to the mouth. Meanwhile, no injuries have been reported yet.

The 2-pound bags of Harris Teeter Brand Frozen Southern Style Hash Browns were sold in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia and Maryland. The Roundy's Brand Frozen Southern Style Hash Browns were sold in Marianos, Metro Market, and Pick 'n Save stores in Illinois and Wisconsin.

According to the firm, the products being recalled were manufactured on January 19 and distributed after that date. No other products under the respective brands are impacted by this recall.

The hash browns being recalled have the production code B170119 on the back of the bag.

The company urged the consumers who have purchased these products not to consume them. These should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. (dpa)
