The merger would create a new confectionery heavyweight in France, it was said. At the same time, Katjes hopes to strengthen his equity capital. No details on the financing were given. The transaction is expected to close in 2018 after approval by the antitrust authorities. CPK produces in five plants in France with a total of around 950 employees.
Katjes International has gradually expanded its international business in recent years. By 2017, the company had taken over the entire brand business of the Italian candy and liquorice manufacturer Cloetta and had thus become number two on the Italian market. The Katjes confectionery empire includes not only the liquorice and fruit gums sold under the company name, but also other confectionery classics such as Ahoi-Brause./rs/DP/he (dpa)
