Cooke Inc. says it has acquired Seajoy Seafood Corporation group, which farms shrimp in Honduras and Nicaragua. Cooke Inc. is the parent of Cooke Aquaculture, which is based in New Brunswick, Canada, and is one of the major companies in worldwide salmon farming.

Cooke representatives say in a statement that the acquisition of Seajoy is an important piece of the company's plans to diversify its products. Seajoy focuses on producing value-added Pacific white shrimp. Its products are sold to customers in the Americas, Europe and Asia.

Cooke says the terms of the transaction have not been disclosed as both companies are private, family-owned businesses. (dpa)
