Mackmyra launches an exclusive smoky edition with a cherry taste

Mackmyra’s new smoky product Moment Körsbärsrök is a spicy and smoky whisky with hints of sweet cherries, and was distilled at Mackmyra Bruk in 2010-2011. The recipe is based on a combination of a smoky distillate matured in ex-Bourbon casks, as well as elegant distillates matured in casks saturated with cherry wine, which give the whisky a fruity sweetness with a clear hint of cherry. The whisky is medium smoky, as the cherry notes are supplemented by Mackmyra’s small 30-litre cask smoky recipe and 100 - 128-litre casks in which Mackmyra’s distillate has matured with a ‘smoke tail’.
“In my opinion, a mature and smoky whisky such as this, with final maturing in cherry wine casks, is a real ‘end-of-the-year’ whisky. It is the perfect accompaniment to a Roquefort cheese or a soft, mature Brie at the end of a nice dinner with family and friends in the autumn darkness. It has a nicely distinct smoky character that doesn’t dominate the other finely-tuned flavours in the whisky too much,” says Mackmyra Master Blender Angela D’Orazio.
The taste is fruity and smoky in combination with a well-balanced spiciness derived from tar, peat, juniper, vanilla and fruity berries, roasted oak, aniseed, citrus and pear caramel. The colour gives warm apricot-toned highlights.
Moment Körsbärsrök will be launched as a limited edition of 1,500 bottles on 25 November 2020.
