BitsaboutMe Ltd. is a Swiss startup in the Personal Data Economy.

We empower people to reclaim control over their personal data, in order to better protect their privacy and to get a fair deal when sharing their personal data profile with trustworthy companies and institutions.

We share 3 basic beliefs:

1. Today's rapidly expanding proliferation and collection of personal data (internet, smart devices/cars, IoT sensors, etc.) create both a privacy risk (data breaches, surveillance) and unfair deals between data subjects (you) and data controllers (e.g. Google, Facebook etc.)

2. Personal data is a valuable asset and should not be locked away, but instead put to use for the benefit of the individual data subject, corporations and society at large, but always under strict control of the individual.

3. We are currently experiencing the "perfect storm"​ with changes in technology, lawmaking, consumer sentiment and business models triggering a paradigm shift to disintermediate the traditional data-driven business models and putting data subjects into control.

In order to promote this change we are building a consumer product that provides users with a simple way to reclaim their personal data and to start understanding, managing and using it under their own strict control. The center piece is a Personal Information Management System (PIMS) that aggregates all of a user's data on the individual's level. The user is in the center of this model as a sovereign data owner as opposed to being the "product" or "asset" of a data company.
