About Confiserie Sprüngli
In 1836 David Sprüngli opened Confiserie Sprüngli & Fils on Marktgasse in Zurich. From 1845 onwards Sprüngli was one of the pioneers of Swiss chocolate production and played a key role in establishing the reputation of Swiss chocolate as the best in the world, a reputation which still exists today. In 1859 David Sprüngli and his son Rudolf secured a property on Zurich's Paradeplatz, which was still not very busy, in the hope that the railway station would be built here. This was not the case, which caused the Sprüngli family sleepless nights. But soon a lively building activity started around the Paradeplatz. The passing Bahnhofstrasse developed into one of the world's most renowned shopping miles. Today Confiserie Sprüngli occupies a prominent position in this area with its retail shop and the associated restaurant, café and bar. Today Sprüngli operates seventeen shops in and around Zurich. A further eight are located in Winterthur, Basel, Bern, St. Gallen, Zug and Geneva.
