About 1.7 Million Pounds Of Frozen Chicken Recalled
Barber Foods is recalling about 1.7 million pounds of frozen chicken products over concerns of Salmonella contamination, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's food safety and Inspection Service said.
The recalled chicken products were produced between February 17 and May 20 and were sold at supermarkets across the U.S. and Canada. The recall is an expansion to a previous recall announced on July 2 of 58,320 pounds of chicken products.
The regulators said since the original recall on July 2, two more case-patients have been identified. The earlier recall was triggered after six patients in Minnesota and Wisconsin were linked to Barber Food products.
The recall involves frozen, stuffed, raw chicken packaged food products, including Chicken Kiev, Chicken Cordon Bleu, Chicken Tenders and Chicken Broccoli Cheese.
Salmonella is one of the most common causes of food poisoning in the US. They cause illnesses such as typhoid fever, paratyphoid fever, and food poisoning. Usually, symptoms last 4-7 days. Salmonella can be neutralized by cooking and pasteurization. (dpa)
