Hellofresh profits from customer growth and dares to do even more

15-Aug-2018 - Germany

After a strong surge in sales in the second quarter, the cook-box mail-order company Hellofresh is even more confident for the year as a whole. Adjusted for currency effects, revenues are now expected to increase by 32 to 37 percent year-on-year in 2018, according to the company listed on the SDax in Berlin on Monday. Due to the planned investments, especially in the USA, the increase will be two percentage points higher than previously expected.

The forecast does not yet include the US cook-box mail order company Green Chef, which was acquired at the end of March. Hellofresh had already raised its sales forecast when presenting the figures for the first quarter in mid-May.

In the second quarter, Hellofresh benefited from a significant increase in the number of customers and its latest acquisition, Green Chef. Sales rose by almost 39 percent year-on-year to 319.7 million euros. Adjusted for currency effects, sales even rose by 48 percent. The operating loss (adjusted EBITDA) decreased to Euro 3.9 million. That was a good three quarters less than a year ago.

Hellofresh, in which the start-up company Rocket Internet is involved, was founded in 2011 and delivered a total of 48.9 million meals to a good 1.8 million customers in the second quarter. The company has been listed on the German Stock Exchange in Frankfurt since the beginning of November 2017./mne/men/fba (dpa)
