German sweets giant Haribo takes action against boozy gummy bears
The German sweets company Haribo has lodged a complaint against a Spanish firm that is selling gummy bears - with alcohol in them. A Haribo spokesman on Tuesday confirmed the complaint against Ositos, saying that their gummy bears resemble Haribo's. "There is the danger of a misleading association between our brand and the alcoholic fruit gummy bears," he said. Ositos offers colourful bears with flavours such as vodka, tequila or whiskey, with an alcohol content of around 15 per cent. Its online shop requires customers to confirm that they are over 18 years old.

For Haribo, the "childlike joy and fun of eating sweet things for young and old" is important, the spokesman said, adding: "For us, children and the consumption of alcohol are mutually exclusive."(dpa)
