Now also online: The BfR World Food Safety Almanac
On the occasion of the World Food Safety Day, the BfR puts the new edition of the handbook on the web
"Safer food, better health" - this is the motto of the fourth World Food safety Day on 7 June 2022. Fittingly, the World food safety Almanac of the Germany Federal Institute for risk assessment (BfR) goes online. The online BfR World Almanac provides an overview of the administrative structures of various countries in food and feed safety. One of the particular challenges is that the choice of food has become more complex in recent years. "The safety of our food and feed along complex global supply chains must remain guaranteed," says BfR President Professor Dr Dr Andreas Hensel. "The BfR World Almanac makes an important contribution to this by making international cooperation much easier."

The Almanac also aims to support the harmonisation of existing methods and avoid duplication of effort. After all, food and feed safety can only be ensured through an international approach that involves close cooperation between countries and organisations.
Currently, 37 countries are represented with their profile in the World Food Safety Almanac. The online project is to be expanded to include more countries from different continents. Thanks to the online format, each country has access to its own country profile and is responsible for constantly updating it.
The BfR online almanac can be found at https://worldfoodsafetyalmanac.bfr.berlin/.
The United Nations launched the World Food Safety Day in 2018 to raise awareness of the importance of safe food. Every year, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), one in ten people worldwide falls ill with foodborne illnesses, which in the worst cases are fatal - affecting all countries.
